May 2006 Safety Tip

By Don Coons

Riding season has arrived in fine style and I hope everyone has performed those T-Clock checks. Proper maintenance is just as important as putting gas in your bike. I was told once by a safety instructor "The most important thing about any ride is to arrive at your destination SAFELY.

This month you get a two for one. A safety maintenance tip combined.

I was just down to the Wingnut bike shop in Fairfield, CA. and talking to Don Allen the owner. He has had several, I believe it was seven so far including mine, 1500 trikes come in with the tall Tulsa windshields and the front fairing has been cracked. One in the shop now is cracked all the way across from left to right and the windshield was ready to come off into the riders lap.

If your riding a 1500 trike with the tall Tulsa windshield it would be wise to take a few minutes to remove the front chrome panel and check the front fairing. Especially check the corners on each side. If it just has small cracks they can be repaired and save you the cost of a new front fairing.

After repairs I replaced my Tulsa with a stock windshield.

Judy and I are wishing everyone a fantastic and safe 2006 riding season.
