MARCH 2007 SAFETY TIP

By Don Coons

WOW! The longer I'm in this assignment the harder it is to come up with a new and exciting safety tip every month.

Well, this should excite everyone. The riding season and great weather will soon be upon us. No one wants to be at home working on his/her bike on a nice warm sunny day. NOW is the time to refer to the T-Clock inspection. Check or change all fluids and lights. Take a good look at those tires and remember that they are the only thing separating you from that hard pavement.

How about those head bearings? Refer to your owners manual for proper adjustment. And, while you're at it; Have you ever taken the time to read your owners manual? Co-riders should also read the owners manual to better understand what's going on. (Husbands really hate it when the wife reminds them to check the kill switch when the engine won't start..and their right.)

Check that first aid kit and make sure it is fully equipped and by all means, don't forget to pack that camera. The camera comes in handy for many things but especially it helps get through a long winter to review great times and relive all the exciting moments you shared last summer.

How about that helmet? Is it in good shape and providing you with all the protection it should? Is the intercom system working? Should the face shield be replaced?

Don't forget to check that windshield. If it is scratched up and you're riding into a rising or setting sun it will blind you. Let's make sure we do all we can to ensure a trouble free riding season. Breakdowns cost time and fun.

     Ride Safe, Don
