2/07 Safety Tip
"WARM THOSE TIRES UP"

By Don Coons

During this time of year when the weather is cold, roads are slick and wet and leaves and pine needles are all over it is essential that you warm-up those tires. Cold tires do not have good traction. You'll want to ride extra cautious for the first 15 to 30 minutes to allow the tires to warm-up and provide the proper traction. Also..New Tires do not have very good traction until after the first 50 miles or so. New tires purchased during winter months require more caution.

Dress properly, usually in layers, on cold days. A rider fighting off the cold weather is not paying attention to safe riding. You need all the concentration you can get during winter riding in order to pay attention to road conditions and other traffic.

Automobile drivers do not see motorcycles and during winter months when their windshields are fogged up they see even less. Be constantly aware of your surroundings and allow a little extra room for a safety margin.

Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable 2007 riding season, Don Coons
